Lessons Learned: The Power of One

  1. One gentleman who is genuinely interested in learning the stories of those he meets can make a lonely place feel warm and inviting.
  2. One cordial encounter at a meal can teach that others’ life experiences are neither simple nor ordinary and that we always have more connections than we initially believe we do.
  3. One table (with two very different men who both understand the need for brothers) can create a culture of belonging that invites others to join and aids in healing.
  4. One smile and one wave can break the ice and create a bridge between strangers that says, “I see you and I see what you are going through. And, I’m pulling for you. Hang in there.”
  5. One mention of a name can create a partnership that speeds progress, because two working together is always better than one alone.
  6. One vital component of healing involves looking more for what’s working than at what is still undone.
  7. One person’s attitude can make or break the peacefulness of a setting. When the peace is broken, intentional actions taken from a peaceful heart are required to reset the environment.
  8. One day is never like another, so one bad day does not dictate that others must follow.
  9. One’s general way of handling life is easily observed when hardships arise. Many of us are still learning to navigate tough times with grace through the opportunities life provides.
  10. One listening ear can make a world of difference.
